Produced to the highest standards, Herpa diecast metal models are developed in collaboration with aircraft manufacturers and are recognized by discerning model airplane and helicopter collectors worldwide for their unparalleled, accurate realism, attention to detail and exceptional quality. True-to-scale, this Herpa 1/200 scale Coulson Aviation Boeing CH-47D Chinook Tandem-Rotor Helicopter measures approximately 3-3/16-inches long - aircraft only - with a 3-1/2-in rotor spin. A Display Stand is not offered for this model. The Boeing CH-47 Chinook Military Helicopter used by the U.S. Army was initially designed by Vertol Corporation - VERTOL is an acronym defined as Vertical Takeoff & Landing - and was manufactured by Boeing Vertol in the early 1960s as a heavy-lift capacity helicopter for transporting military personnel and cargo. Coulson Aviation is the world leader in aerial firefighting. With their large fleet of planes and helicopters, they support fire departments in the western United States, but are also active worldwide, such as in South America and Australia. Since 2019, Coulson has deployed numerous converted CH-47 Chinook helicopters that can carry up to 11,000 liters of firefighting water. This Boeing CH-47D Chinook variant, which first went into service in 1979, uses the same airframe as earlier CH-47 models, with the only differences being having been fitted with more powerful engines and more advanced avionics, which includes a Global Positioning System. The majority of the 472 Boeing CH-47D Chinook Helicopters were converted from earlier Boeing CH-47 A, B, and C models, with the last CH-47D having been delivered to the U.S. Army Reserve in 2002.
