The Boeing C-17 came to fruition in the early 1970's when the United States Air Force needed a new aircraft with the adaptable versatility of the C-5 Galaxy, yet with the load capacities of the C-141 Starlifter and the C-5 Galaxy. With the USAF having communicated its requirements with both Boeing and McDonnell-Douglass, both companies came up with flyable prototypes, neither of which were initially chosen. However, after having made vast revisions of the original plans, the McDonnell-Douglass version was ultimately selected and went into production.
Manufactured with the most advanced level technology, the C-17 seemingly has no deficits, as, not only does it boast exceptional flight performance, with extremely short take offs and landings, because of its ability to refuel while in flight, it also has worldwide range, not to mention, cavernous storage capacity, far exceeding that of the C-130 Hercules.
