The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner is a mid-size, dual-aisle, twin-engine jet. It was designed to be a more fuel-efficient replacement for similar-sized commercial aircraft. The primary structure is constructed from 50% composite materials, including the fuselage and wings. Measuring 206 feet long by 56 feet high, with a 197-foot wingspan, it can reach a speed of 593mph and fly as high as 43,000 feet.
In 2014, United began operating its 787-9 Dreamliner service, with what was then the longest 787 route, with nonstop service between Los Angeles, California, and Melbourne, Australia. At the end of 2025, United will take delivery of Boeing's new 787-9 with what it's calling an "Elevated" interior. With a total of 99 premium seats, its cabins will have the highest percentage of such seats among US airlines. Other features include new business-class seats, business-plus suites, refined cabin finishes, and a refreshed interior throughout.
